Preparing to Meet With Your Attorney

  • Employment information, including dates of employment

  • Copies of income tax returns from the last 3 years
  • Copies of your last 3 pay stubs
  • Information about your spouse's income and other household income, if any
  • Bank, saving and checking account numbers, as well as balance statements
  • Information about investment accounts
  • Information about pensions
  • Information about valuables, from antiques to jewelry
  • Information about real estate holdings, including purchase date, purchase price, remaining balances and current value
  • Information about all debts
  • Information about your educational and employment background, as well as your spouse's
  • Information about your children

Furthermore, if there are other issues that you foresee arising during the family law or divorce case, make note of them. These may include histories of drug or alcohol abuse, criminal activity, domestic violence or sexual misconduct. Keep in mind that this and all information is protected by attorney-client privilege.
