ANNE RADUNS: In the case of a child born in an intact marriage, there is a presumption that both parents are equal custodians. In a paternity case, the parents aren't married. So the mother is the natural guardian of the child and the father has to petition the court to get those rights.

ANNE RADUNS: A paternity action is important for both parents. A paternity action will demonstrate if somebody is the biological father and then establish parental rights. The father can seek a parenting plan and the mother can seek child support.

ANNE RADUNS: At Anne E. Raduns, PA, we represent both the biological mother or the biological father.

ANNE RADUNS: It's important for both parents to know their rights because you don't want one parent dictating to the other parent what they can and can't do. There are a number of things that I do when I'm handling a paternity case. I run child support numbers and I try to create a parenting plan based on the age and needs of the child. I explain to my clients what they can achieve and I help them obtain those goals.
